What Wealthy Men Actually Want in a Woman

If you’re a high-achieving woman who’s built a beautiful life on your own, you’ve probably heard this a thousand times: “You’re intimidating to men.”

But here’s the truth: you’re not intimidating to the right man.

As a matchmaker working exclusively with high net worth (HNW) singles — men who earn 7+ figures, lead companies, and live in the top 1% of lifestyle — I’ve seen firsthand what these men are actually looking for in a partner.

And it’s not what TikTok tells you.

So if you’re ready to attract a man whose power matches yours — without playing small or pretending you don’t want what you want — let’s get into the four traits that high-caliber men tell ME PERSONALLY as a dating coach & matchmaker, that they look for in a match…

1. She Sees Him as a Person, Not a Paycheck

There’s a quiet panic among high-earning men: “Is she into me, or into my money?”

When I sat down last week with a client who earns over $1M a year, the first thing he said was, “I just want someone to know me. Not pitch a lifestyle to me.”

Here’s the thing: most of these men aren’t obsessed with money. They’re thinking about legacy, family, peace, impact, and joy.

Research backs this up. A 2017 Harvard study found that men who are financially secure are more likely to prioritize emotional connection and shared values over beauty or status symbols in a long-term partner (Harvard Kennedy School, 2017).

You don’t have to shrink your standards. But if your dating checklist reads like a luxury shopping list without any reference to who he is, you’ll miss the mark.

What I recommend: Shift from “what can he do for me” to “what can we create together?” Be curious about his story. Ask about his childhood. Be the first woman in months to ask about his heart, not his house.

2. She Wants to Build a Family (or Can Embrace That Role)

Let’s talk about the topic so many avoid: motherhood.

Many women assume that because a man is successful and over 40, he’s no longer interested in kids. Wrong. If he doesn’t already have children, he likely wants them.

Men aged 30-50 in the HNW bracket are often in their prime in terms of fatherhood readiness. They’ve got the resources, the freedom, and now they want meaning.

In fact, a Stanford study published in PNAS (2018) showed that men who became fathers later in life were more emotionally invested and nurturing than younger dads.

That said, many of these men already have children — and are searching for a partner who can step into the role of wife and stepmother. This doesn’t mean losing yourself. It means being open to intimacy with his world too.

What I recommend: You don’t need to pretend you’re a 1950s housewife. But you do need to ask yourself: Can I imagine creating or nurturing a family with the right person? If the answer is yes, don’t hide that. It’s one of the most attractive things you can express to a man who’s ready.

3. She’s Fit, Feminine, and Takes Care of Herself

I know. It feels taboo to say this. But I’m not doing my job if I’m able to be honest with you about what these men want. So, let’s just be real: physical attraction matters.

And YOU KNOW IT, TOO.

I’m not talking about being a size zero. I AM, however, talking about energy, glow, effort, vitality. It’s not shallow to want a partner who is physically healthy, just like it’s not shallow to want someone emotionally stable.

In fact, a 2016 study in the journal Evolution and Human Behavior found that physical attractiveness is a stronger predictor of long-term relationship satisfaction for men than for women. Men are biologically wired to respond to visual stimuli in the same way women are wired to respond to feelings of protection & safety — it’s primal, not personal.

Now OBVIOUSLY, that doesn’t mean looks are everything. What matters more is your relationship to taking care of yourself. Do you make time for your well-being? Do you feel at home in your body? Do you invest in feeling desirable for you, not just for him?

What I recommend: Shift your focus from “I need to be hot & look perfect” (or even away from “smash the patriarchy I reject societal standards for beauty” to “I deserve to feel radiant.” That energy is magnetic. It signals to a man: She’s vibrant. She’s confident. She’s living. I WANT HER.

4. She’s Ambitious and Also Willing to Be Taken Care Of

Here’s where powerful women tend to get tripped up the most…

You’re used to handling everything. Being the boss. Paying the bills. Making the plans. But when you’re in a relationship with a man who has the capacity and desire to lead — can you actually let him?

This isn’t about giving up your power. It’s about creating polarity. Being able to let your man take care of you is a deeply rooted act of TRUST that men in their healthy masculine crave to honor.

HNW men are looking for partners, not employees, bosses, and ESPECIALLY not competitors. They want a woman who has passionately created her own world and who knows how to receive in the world you’re building together.

Psychologist Dr. Pat Allen calls this “reciprocal interdependence” — a dynamic where both partners retain their individuality but lean into their respective masculine and feminine energies.

What I recommend: Let him plan the date, BUT GIVE HIM GUIDANCE. Literally tell him 3-5 things you’d genuinely enjoy doing on the date & trust him to deliver. Let him be proud to provide, while also respecting that you have your own empire. The sweet spot? Soft power — the woman who runs things in heels and lets herself melt in love.

So… Can You Really Have It All?

Yes. But not by doing it ALL; by doing it different.

If you want a relationship that mirrors the success, abundance, and joy you’ve created in every other area of your life — you need a different strategy than the one you’ve been running all these years. Don’t you agree?! Things will change for you when you choose to change how you do things! It’s NOT about changing YOU. It’s changing the way you move.

Stop playing games. Stop outsourcing your standards to TikTok. Stop believing the myth that powerful women must settle OR that you are entitled to a tall man with a trust fund who worships you just because of a stupid (albeit catchy) song.

The truth? The right man will never ask you to be less. But he will crave the parts of you that you’ve hidden to survive.

You’ve got to let him meet the whole you.
