Hey, gorgeous!
Look, I know you’re out there THRIVING—running your business, slaying your goals, and owning every room you walk into. You’re decisive, fiercely independent, and don’t *need* anyone to hold your hand to get where you want to go. But let’s talk about your love life for a sec. (And why it feels like love is the one puzzle successful single women can’t solve!)
Are you finding that the men you want keep slipping away? Maybe they ghost after a great date, call you “intimidating,” or just don’t step up. You go on countless FIRST dates…but never quite stepping into the romantic relationship you crave.
If this sounds familiar, it might not be you—it could just be the hyper-masculine energy you’re bringing to the dating table.
Before you roll your eyes, hear me out. This isn’t about dimming your shine or pretending to be someone you’re not. You’re a goddess, and your strength is why you’re so incredible.
But if you’re coming into your dates like you’re running a board-meeting or acting like “one of the guys,” it might be sending the wrong signal to the emotionally mature men you’re after. Let’s dive into why, with no judgment—just some real talk and a sprinkle of science to help you attract the love you deserve.
What’s hyper-masculine energy, anyway?
First, we need to distinguish that there’s a BIG difference between tapping into your God-given masculine energy to get things done…and “trapping” yourself into an over-functioning mode of self-preservation.
You know that vibe you tap into when you’re closing a deal or powering through a deadline? That’s your masculine energy—think leading, succeeding, achieving. It’s not “male”; it’s just a flavor of human energy, and you rock it at work.
Feminine energy, on the other hand, is softer—receptive, intuitive, vulnerable, receiving. We all have both, but as a high-achieving woman, you might lean hard into the masculine to thrive in a competitive world.
Here’s the catch: in dating, that same energy can throw things off. A 2018 study from the University at Buffalo showed men feel less attracted to women who “compete with” them in masculine-coded traits like dominance. In experiments, guys physically distanced themselves from women who “act like men”, preferring partners who aren’t sidelining them or condescending to them. Lead researcher Lora Park said men’s emotions, not their stated preferences, drive their attraction. Translation? Your CEO energy might make him feel like he’s competing, not connecting, on your dates.
I get it if that feels unfair. I know women will read that and roll their eyes or say men need to “suck it up.” But men, especially the grounded ones you want, crave a ROLE in your life. He wants to be INVITED IN, and to feel like he has something to offer you (besides money.) If you’re always in charge, they might wonder, “Where do I fit?”
It’s not about them being intimidated—it’s about energy alignment & harmony.
When “I’ve got this” blocks intimacy
Let’s talk about a client I had named “Anna”. She’s a 34-year-old homeowner in NYC, thrives at her job, and is used to handling everything. On dates, she’d let him plan & text her & pay, but when they were together she was shut off from all vulnerability. She would LOGICALLY bring up subjects to talk about in regards to her family, but then she’s manage him, her emotions, the conversation, and everything about their connection. She thought she was being a team player, but her matches kept fading out. She didn’t struggle to GET dates–she struggled to get to date 2, 3, and beyond.
Anna wasn’t doing anything “bad”. Her hyper-masculine energy just left no space for a guy to step up emotionally for her. To take care of her. To make her feel SAFE. She would talk and joke (and even dress) like one of the guys.
And I know that talking about how to dress can be explosive…but one thing I KNOW about men is that they are undeniably attracted to the aesthetic of women. If that’s not something you’re into–THAT’S FINE–but I also wouldn’t be honest as a dating coach if I didn’t mention that you are making an obstacle for yourself by refusing to invest in embracing your feminine side.
Men are visual creatures, and they bond through action. Like solving problems or planning a date, which triggers vasopressin, a hormone linked to attachment. A 2014 study in Neuroscience & Biobehavioral Reviews found vasopressin strengthens male bonding when they feel purposeful. If you’re always “doing,” you might unintentionally starve that connection. Anna learned to soften, letting her dates into her heart and opening up to them without trying to manage them. Suddenly, men were sticking around, drawn to her warmth.
I’m not saying this to encourage you to play being helpless. It’s about vulnerability! Feminine energy says, “I’m strong, but I’d love your help.”
A 2023 Good Men Project post nailed it: men pull back when women hide their emotions or act like they’ve got no fears.
One guy said, “I want a partner who trusts me with her heart, not someone who seems bulletproof.” Your softness isn’t weakness—it’s a magnet.
The “intimidating” myth
Raise your hand if you’ve been called “too intimidating.” 🙋♀️
It’s a lazy label, and it’s not the full story. A 2020 Atlantic article found men admire successful women but feel sidelined when traditional roles—like pursuing or leading—are flipped. It’s not your corner office scaring them off; it’s the vibe that you don’t need a partner, just a cheerleader. Men want to feel like they add value, not like they’re auditioning for a side-kick.
Here’s where society messes us up.
We’re told to “act like men” to succeed—be tough, never flinch. But in love, that’s a recipe for loneliness. A 2024 Medium post pointed out that media pushes women to dominate with masculine traits, yet “men are drawn to feminine energy—your softness is power.”
I’m not trying to be anti-feminist; I want to show you how dynamic you are! You can run the boardroom and still let your man take care of you…
Flipping the script without losing YOU
So, how do you balance your fabulous flare for success, with the softness that sparks connection? You don’t have to ditch your hustle—just add a little feminine flow. Try these:
- Let Him Lead a Bit: Suggest three date spots you love and let him choose. It shows you trust his judgment.
- Own Your Needs: Say, “I’d feel so special if you planned our next outing. Here are 3 places I’d LOVE to go. You pick!” It invites him to shine without pressure.
- Feel, Don’t Fix: Share a fear or dream—like, “I’m nervous about this pitch.” Let him listen, not solve. But please, communicate that clearly to him before you share!
- Nurture Your Feminine: Journal, paint, dance, sing or take a quiet walk. Reconnect with your intuitive side to recharge.
When I met my husband, Christian, I asked him to change HIS plans and take me to a totally different spot for dinner. I expected him to be annoyed, but his problem-solving skills & excitement around me telling him what I wanted lit him up, and I felt closer to him. I knew in that moment that I could trust him with what I wanted, and he knew that I would be open with him about my desires.
That softness didn’t make me less—it made us more.
You’re not “too much”—but you’re not letting yourself be enough
Here’s the deal: you’re not doing dating wrong by being strong, by pursuing your goals, and becoming a well-resourced woman.
Your ambition, your fire—that’s YOU. And it makes your life awesome. But it’s not *all* of you.
If you’re craving a man who steps up, loves deeply, and stays, you have to show him that there’s SPACE for him in the beautiful life you’ve constructed. I’m afraid you may be hiding behind walls of “accomplishments” to protect yourself. You’re wafting in your independence, and at the same time…pushing away real connection.
It’s not about being less; it’s about being all of you—strong and soft, leading and receiving. The right guy will see your power and your heart and think, “That’s my girl, my home, my partner–I want to be the one to build with & protect HER.”
